Morning and welcome to another Monday…why can’t the weekends last longer as today has come around way to quickly! To start the week off, I’m sharing another song that I can’t get out of my head. Actually, this morning, I’m sharing three because I didn’t know which one to pick.
The band is Martin Stephenson and the Daintees who have been around since I was a teenager (on and off) and who it’s a Christmas tradition to go see with my husband and best friend, not just because I love the music and like a bit of nostalgia but because Martin Stephenson is a funny man who tells stories to go with the songs. Can there be anything better than a night of singing, dancing and laughing? If you haven’t checked them out before, I can highly recommend it.
Anyway, on to my favourite songs – which are all oldies but which I just love listening to… Continue reading
One of the things I love most about Spotify is that I feel like I am always discovering new to me artists, either through the related artists section or because I am willing to give a musician “a go” whereas previously I might not have bought an album. I say new to me because the artists I’m discovering aren’t always new to everyone; in fact, some have been around for years but they have passed me by.
So one of my not-so-guilty secrets is a love of country music, mainly female country singers with a bit of attitude. Every now and again, I have to spend an afternoon listening to them, songs that are always so damn catchy and lift my spirits, even if the subject matter isn’t always sunshine and flowers.
Feeling a bit blah about the state of the country and the world at the moment, a pick-me-up is just what I’ve needed this last week and so I’ve been listening to old favourites on my runs. This one, El Camino by Elizabeth Cook, has one of those choruses that always finds me singing along.
What about you – what music is on repeat on your playlist this week?
So this week’s Music for Monday does seem like a bit of a no brainer in that I’ve picked Tom Petty, who – sadly – died last week. Tom Petty is one of those artists that I feel like has been around forever and whose songs I seem to know all the words for, though I don’t own all his albums. Even if it’s a song you don’t know, you do instantly know it’s Petty as soon as you hear the first few bars. His music was distinctive, as was his voice.
