So here it is – the final Monday before Christmas. And the last week I will be inflicting Christmas music on you (for at least another year!). Today I’m sharing one more last blast of favourite Christmas songs, ones that a playlist doesn’t feel like it’s a playlist without. Continue reading “Music for Monday: It's Christmas! #3”
Christmas is my favourite time of year (even after realising this week I had forgotten to write my Christmas cards!). I love everything about it – bar the shopping – and always have. There is something about it that takes me back to being a kid and, as the big day approaches, my excitement builds and I start counting sleeps (not very mature, I know, but who cares right?). Morning all and welcome to another start of the week. Did you get snow? We did – not as much as I’d like but enough to make me hope for a White Christmas (all fingers and toes are now crossed). In keeping with the season, and following on from last weeks Music for Monday, I’m sharing another three of my favourite Christmas songs because, cheesy as they are, I just can’t get enough. Continue reading “Music for Monday: It's Christmas #2”
I love this time of year. The dark nights, the Christmas lights, the cheesy music, and the candles that I seem to be constantly burning. It’s just so much nicer than anything else. I started messing around to try and get a decent shot of a candle’s flame. Then I gave up and just took this, a glowing candle on a dark night.
What about you – are you a candle burner?

Sometimes (actually, a lot of the times), I really don’t want to slave away over the stove. I want something quick and easy. Other times, I really crave comfort food, something that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. This week, the two came together in a dish that I call a bake, even though it’s mainly made on the stove top, because I’m not sure what else to call it (ideas on a postcard or in the comments section please as it would be nice to have a more appropriate name).
I’m not sure when I started making this – it’s been at least ten years – or where the idea came from – most likely a cooking show, one of those where people give the chef random ingredients and ask them to make a gourmet meal because you can’t get ingredients more random than this. Regardless, though, it tastes great and is quick and easy to make. Plus, my family love it as much as I do, which makes it an win-win on lazy cooking nights. This is my cat, Lucky. To say he fits his name perfectly is probably an understatement according to family and friends – in that he’s lucky to have found people to take care of him that basically spoil him to death. He is so loving though, a constant purr machine, that it’s impossible for us not to!
As a result, though, he’s ended up quite particular. He likes to be the centre of attention and he likes things “his way”. That’s definitely the case when it comes to food. When we adopted him, the cat rescue centre sent us home with a bag of food they said he’d been eating. He wouldn’t touch it. Cue mad panic shopping to find something he would eat. It’s finally December, the season where even the most hardened hipster (a.k.a. known as my husband) lets their hair down and gives in to the most cheesiest music on the planet. It only happens once a year but that’s what makes it so special. For the next 21 days, I will be able to revel in some of the worst music out there without ruining my indie-cred.
In fact, I’ve already started. As the first rolled around, we went away for the weekend and I spent three hours listening to Slade, Shaky, and Mud. I don’t care what the nay-sayers like The Guardian say, or how many times I hear the same songs, it makes me happy, especially when I’m getting to sing along badly with others.
So, in honour of the season for the next three weeks I’m going to share three of my favourite Christmas songs. Feel free to weep or sing along. I’ve seen both with some of these…. Continue reading “Music for Monday: It's Christmas!”
I came across this post on Natalie the Explorer’s blog and thought it was great. She, and some other bloggers, share their month in a sentence a day. I thought it would be fun to join in, a way to record just what I’d been up to. So, here’s what I did… 1st: Went to my daughter’s parent / teacher evening and heard that, after a tough start, she has settled in to year 3 really well (phew!) 2nd: Got to sit and drink tea with my mom for the afternoon, catching up on nothing much but still having fun.
